Michael Pollan missed the mark by 25%

Michael Pollan wrote a blog that was published in the NY Times today and I feel that he missed one key point. The article can be found at this link: http://pollan.blogs.nytimes.com/ (sub. required)

I agree with the majority of his argument and I am distressed that lobbyist are determining what constitutes an organic product. I have been eating organic for few years and have recently pledged to go 95%-100% organic.

Mr. Pollan should have developed his article to discuss the new farm movement of "buying local". Organic will be commercialized because it has reached the "critical value" when large global orgs will dive into the market with millions of dollars. However, if we all try to eat food produced locally we will support our local small market farms and food producers. Due to economies of scale, large global companies could never jump into this space and buying local organic products will help protect our backyard and provide a since of connection with our food source. (something we are missing in the US).

Anyway, this is an interesting topic that deserves more attention but I have to run to my Spanish class.

Need more food please

I had dinner last night at Carmelita and enjoyed the meal with great friends. The food was wonderful from the apps, salads, and main course. I frequently eat meals without meat so the vegetarian component was not an issue.

My Friends who have dined at Carmelita have vocalized one complaint - the portion size is small and it's fairly expensive. Unfortunately, I agree with this one caveat - the price is more then justified by the presentation and taste of every dish. However, I wish that my entree was 15% larger. I do not agree with the HUGE portion size problem in the US and I watch what I eat, but I left after 2.5 courses hungry and I am a skinny guy.
